Acupuncture and TMJ Pain

Acupuncture treatment is highly effective in relieving this painful condition.  The pain originates in the joint where the bones of the jaw meet.  A sensitive nerve passes there, and if the joint becomes altered in some way, the sensitive nerve becomes irritated and painful.  Tightening of the muscles occurs, and this increases the irritation and pain.  Some patients have been unable to fully chew, while others will have a constant ache.  I have effectively relieved the pain and spasm, and with a series of treatments, the nerve becomes desensitized and the muscles relax.  Most patients respond with a series of twelve treatments or less.
