Acupuncture is an effective treatment for the symptoms of hemorrhoids. Acupuncture treatment works particularly well for the symptoms of protruding hemorrhoids, and the protrusion will recede following my treatment. The symptoms can be very annoying. The symptoms of hemorrhoids range from minor discomfort to an inability to sit. Many times hemorrhoids bleed, producing blood in the toilet or on the paper following a bowel movement.

If I can treat a hemorrhoid shortly after it forms, I can often make it resolve and recede. Hemorrhoids that have been present for a longer time, or that are larger in size require several treatment sessions. Most often improvement is felt twenty four hours after treatment. I teach diet and herbs for prevention in recurring cases. Ask me about an auricular implant that is an effective way to avoid surgery in chronic cases. Points on the legs are most commonly used, sometimes with points on the sacrum.

Acupuncture treatment is highly effective in relieving this painful condition. The pain originates in the joint where the bones of the jaw meet. A sensitive nerve passes there, and if the joint becomes altered in some way, the sensitive nerve becomes irritated and painful. Tightening of the muscles occurs, and this increases the irritation and pain. Some patients have been unable to fully chew, while others will have a constant ache. I have effectively relieved the pain and spasm, and with a series of treatments, the nerve becomes desensitized and the muscles relax. Most patients respond with a series of twelve treatments or less.

The meditation I know is Sum Faht. The name comes from the Cantonese phrase “soi sum peen fah faht,” which loosely translated means whatever the heart desires will manifest. The tradition is from the Chinese culture in Malaysia. Meditation has been shown to have numerous benefits for the health of the mind, body, and nervous system. By stilling the mind, a person thinks clearly.

Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine both recognize the importance of one’s diet and nutritional status in the maintenance of health. Most of the patients I see, when asked, say they have a healthy diet. People visiting an acupuncturist often have taught themselves what is healthy to eat. A healthy diet, though, may not carry the nutrients an individual’s body requires. After examining a patient, using Traditional Chinese medicine techniques combined with modern laboratory testing, I can determine the nutritional status and nutritional needs of an individual. A diet that is healthy and that addresses those needs is prescribed. Nutritional supplements are often included for their medicinal effects.

I have effectively practiced this form of medicine for twenty-seven years.

Traditional Chinese Medicine uses natural substances to effectively treat illness. More than 450 items, ranging from plants and minerals to foods, form the pharmacopoeia. These items are combined in a balanced way to conform to an individual patient’s diagnostic picture. Chinese Herbal Medicines are meant to ease a body in the direction of better function and health. Traditionally these items were boiled into a soup or tea. Modern processing techniques are now used to prepare standardized extracts of these medicines in a convenient powder form, which can be mixed with water or encapsulated. I prescribe both forms, traditional teas or modern extracts, in my practice

Acupuncture is the ancient Asian Art of inserting fine pins into certain anatomical locations to regulate the health of the body. Chinese medicine is based on the concept that illness is caused by an imbalance of Chi, the Nerve Energy or Life Force of the body. Acupuncture points, when properly stimulated, will adjust and correct the imbalance. Western medicine theorizes that stimulating these points causes the body to secrete a neural or neural-hormonal substance that effects the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. The National Institute of Health and the World Health Organization recognize that acupuncture is an effective treatment for certain symptoms and illnesses.

After an examination and diagnosis, acupuncture is applied as needed to regulate the Chi of the body. My practice takes into account the reluctance of some people to be punctured, and though treatment is most often painless, special consideration is given to” sensitive” patients.

When needed, stimulation with moxibustion (the traditional application of therapeutic heat), or mild electrical current is used.
